Software Evaluation (20%) You will each identify a software program you like to explore, evaluate the software, and present to the class. In this assignment, you will assume expertise for this software by taking at least two of the following actions that would help extend your knowledge about this software tool:
contact the publisher of the software to gather more information
demonstrate the software to a target student, a teacher, a parent, or a group of teachers informally or formally
interview a teacher, a parent, or a student who uses this software program
try it out in a lesson with your own student(s)
create a sample lesson plan in which this software is used as support for learning
review what research literature findings are about the software program
Your main goal for performing these tasks is to understand this software from three perspectives: producer, consumer, and the reviewer. The sources of your articles could be scholarship journals, teacher magazines, or educational organizations.
The mode of your contact with publisher or vendor of the software may vary, including interviewing, email inquiry, request of introduction packages, etc. Be ready to ask questions that help both you and them find out more about this software. Interviewing should be conducted professionally. Make sure that your questions for the school, teacher, parent, or student tap into the educational values, service issues, as well as and technological aspects of the software.
The presentation will be made within small groups of 3 people in week 8. Each person will have 15 minutes allotted for the presentation. That is, each group will be given approximately 45 minutes for the software review presentations. Please prepare a handout for every member of your presentation team in advance of your presentation. Submit the completed evaluation protocol
and the handout to the designated Wikispaces page before the presentation. Please use the time judiciously so that you spend a small amount of the time for demonstration and the rest of the time for the dissemination of your findings. The grouping format is used to foster interaction among members of the class and allow for better feedback by your team members. I will create the groups once I know your software choice.
Make sure you save your documents with unique file names. One way to do it is to include your name in each document you will insert here.
